French Bulldogs are the toy ancestor to the English Bulldog. England, however, not being fond of the smaller version of the Bully, shipped the toy variety in large numbers to France; where they quickly became popular with women in fashionable circles. Although popular in France, the French Bulldog Club of America was the first organization in the world devoted to the breed, dedicating a specialty show at the Waldorf-Astoria in 1898, which was a raging sensation. Credit  for the greatest influence in molding the breed goes to Ch. Nellcote Gamin, imported in 1904 by Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Goldenberg, which made the breed stock in the country independent from further importation. Today, it is almost impossible to find a Frenchie that does not have Gamin inheritance.

French Bulldogs have a very comedic personality and  are playful, alert, and enthusiastic. They enjoy the company and attention of people, however their snoring may drive some to pass on allowing these pups to sleep in their beds.  This sturdy breed is very cleanly and prefers to avoid frollicing in puddles  although very stocky and low to the ground.  The French Bulldog’s coat is short and easy to maintain and comes in an array of solid and  multi -colors, including fawn, blue, black, brindle, and white. Yet it is their signature “bat” ears that sets this adorable breed apart from their English counterpart. At a lifespan of 12 years, you will fall in love with these friendly, happy little dogs that will be a devoted, companion , filling your life with entertainment for more than a decade.
