Yorkie
The Yorkshire Terrier, often referred to as a Yorkie, is a small, toy sized dog. Yorkies seem oblivious of their small size and are very eager for adventure. This little dog is highly energetic, brave, loyal and clever. For owners who take the time to understand how to treat a small dog, the Yorkie is a wonderful companion! They are alert and have great watchdog instincts, yet not known as a protective breed. Yorkies are better suited to adults and families with older children who know how to handle small dogs. They are also friendly toward strangers, yet are shy around other pets.
Yorkies have a long glossy coat that is fine and silky and falls straight down on either side. Puppies are traditionally brown, black, and tan. Adult Yorkie's coat colors turn a steal blue and tan as they age. The hair on their head is so abundant that it is almost always necessary to gather it in a band to keep from going into the dog's food bowl and to give the animal maximum visibility. Some owners choose to trim the hair on top of the head.
